A Thai person is asking foreigners about the laws of Thailand ?

Couldn't your Thai friend find out the employment laws himself ?

Any work you do requires a work permit as well as a non-b visa and extension of stay based upon working for a company or teaching.

For a extension based upon working for a company the amount depends upon your nationality.

For those from most western countries it is a minimum salary of 50k baht.

For teaching there is no minimum salary,

I remember having to travel to BKK from CNX to apply for a VOLUNTEER visa--to work for free

I had to get the thai lawyer who was sponsoring the program to get involved..sheesh...

had to pay for that visa too--the irony

Yes, it sucks, please spread the word. They even required that the volunteers came to help after the tsunami had them.

Yep, there have even been cases of backpackers invited by Thai teachers to go to schools in very remote places, like islands off the Andaman coast, just to give a couple hours fun lesson to the students, let them have a little contact with a foreigner and practice using some basic English with a foreigner, and these people get nabbed by the local cop and then extorted. Used to see regular reports of these things on the Lonely Planet forum before the pandemic hit.
