200 security cameras have been installed on Koh Larn by city authorities to monitor beaches and traffic.

 

Yesterday, May 31st, Kiattisak Sriwongchai, Pattaya deputy secretary, revealed the progress of the installation of security cameras on Koh Larn, Pattaya, Chonburi, in the hope of securing tourists and residents. The cameras covered the island’s seven beaches and the dangerous spots.

So far, 95 percent of the progress had been made, according to the deputy secretary. The cameras were capable of zooming for 800 meters; for example, it could see the ferry coming from Pattaya as well as the plate numbers. The authorities aimed to transform Koh Larn into a smart city where tourists and residents felt safe about their properties.

Thank you for installing millions of cameras but who is watching??

If lawlessness on road is any sign then you gotta move your lazy butt to the field.

Technology if not complemented by intelligence is useless and wastage of money and resources.

Big question is "who is going to maintain them"?

It puts me off visiting Koh Larn. The island is going to be very safe without visitors.

 

Did someone in government have a job lot of cameras they had to offload?

What for, they will mostly be out of service in 6 months time.

Good point !

If they work anything like the ones in Pattaya what could go wrong. Well besides not working when they need to check them following an incident. 

A Thai friend told me yesterday that a new law was passed effective from the 1st that if you have security cameras you have to put a sign up letting people know about them.  I'm not sure if it is true or not.

Depends on the incident; the BIB tracked a jailbreaker 100s of kms including a change of vehicle but no videos of gold snatching have surfaced yet.

There was a rule some years back mandating cameras in bars etc....  never seen warnings about that,

First of all: will all of them they be turned on? Are they all genuine and not just props? These are legitimate questions in Thailand where cameras tend to selectively fail when they are not downright fake.

What else are they going to monitor?

In China they have them also with a program running, facial recognition.

The program based on algoritmes can decide if you are planning on something doing wrong or in what ever state you are. So that means safety?

If i red right, in China you get automatically get a fine if you pass red light and if you do it to many times, you really get severe punishments, as in loosing your job, no more insurances or what ever they can think of you to really punish. You will be an outlaw.

 

If the program alerts, you get questioned?

They are coming to take you away, aha. Ok thats a very old song.  

Zooming 800 meters and seeing the plates of cars, so check up on who is coming to the island. They also zoom in when women are on the beach, maybe taking pics?

Selling, collecting or even start to extort?  

Well good thing is Thai dont like maintenance.
