Airbnb has released the first results from its latest survey of hosts and guests worldwide, focusing on its findings from Thailand. Hosts surveyed in Thailand, who used the platform last year, provided insights into how Airbnb hosts are using their income in a time of soaring inflation, emerging as key contributors to the local economy, and building strong people connections.

Mitigating Rising Costs with Hosting

As external forces pushed inflation higher around the world last year, income earned through hosting became essential for navigating higher prices for hosts in Thailand.

In response to a question about why they host their space on Airbnb:

-- Almost 35%t of hosts surveyed in Thailand said one of the reasons they host is to earn money to help cover the rising cost of living;

-- Nearly a third said they host to earn money to make ends meet;

-- Over half said they host to earn extra spending money;

-- Almost half said they host to earn money to grow their business.

Airbnb has one of the worst booking platforms amongst the many others.  They allow Guests to double book and then when you go on the website, you cannot contact Airbnb Management to find out what went wrong and then threaten you with a $50 dollar fine if THEY think the host has made an error.  Also if you follow the cancellation instructions, you end up on a page that only allows you to adjust a booking and not cancel, contrary to what the website says.  Pathetic!

Nonsense truly just babble.

Ive been a host for 10 years and.. Air bnb have a great system in place that protects both host and tenant.  Strangely this has been my best low season ever!

There are different levels of cancellations. Mine is no refund so could care less if they double book ????

Don,t know how Airbnb in bangkok works,but they are many hotels in the city for every price that suits you.When I book a hotel in bkk ring them pay when I arrive sorted,If i don,t make it the hotel will take a walk in as I have done before .

     Could be a delay with the plane or something like that,when I tried in jan booked and paid the quarantine hotel.Visa rules changed and I had to cancel,7 days before the arrival date to get my money back,it took nearly 6 weeks and a few ph calls to receive it.Without  me telling them well before the 7 day deadline i would have lost that money.So Airbnb should play fair if a no show happens and the reason is valid

So in essence the above article boils down to 'hosts letting rooms for money'?  What a good idea though I suspect hotels will jump on this bandwagon.
