does somebody know how to get and install Thai fonts on PSP?

my son downloaded many MP3 files with Thai titles to his PSP but all titles show as garbled characters.

his firmware is 3.50 which, as he says, does not let him play homebrew or copy games.

Your out of luck i'm afraid - best bet to get an ID3 tag renamer and see if it converts the filenames to English

I find this quite strange since the PSP was bought here in Thailand.

Grey import - your PSP is either Japanese, US or European. I do not think there has been an official rollout of it in Thailand.

I *could* be wrong of course. But Thai script is something i've never seen on a PSP.

psp only have language support for japanese, chinese and korean.you can either change the id3 tag of the mp3 to english or get it to install a custom firmware.maybe in mbk they offer downgrade and custom firmware installation so you can install thai font to be displayed on the screen.

btw, where did you bought the psp and how much?is it the value pack or just the core pack?

downgrade is not an option.

my son bought it at Central Rama II in Oct. '06 for about 10K Baht , value pack.

Why is downgrading not an option? If they made a homebrew for Thai fonts that is the only way to get Thai fonts. Like someone else said, all psp's are imports from out of country. As with lots of other electronics and none of them have thai fonts.

downgrading is not an option because of the risks involved. I did search on the net and found this confirmed.

many of my son's class mates have a PSP and five of them did a downgrade at MBK. Four of those guys ended up with a trashed PSP, gone beyond recovery.

I'm not going to take the risk of trashing 10K just in order to be able to play copy games. And I have to point out that my son agrees 100% with me since most copy games cause a lot of problems for the hardware.

No that's not correct, about copy games messing up the hardware, that does not happen.

Downgrading is a simple process, done it myself 6 times... BUT this IS Thailand so..... I wouldnt trust an MBK worker to do the downgrade unless they had a garauntee of replacing the psp if they made a mistake. The problem is 1) if you dont follow directions (in english) perfectly you break your psp, and 2) that PSP's with certain motherboards cannot be downgraded and maybe they dont know that or dont bother to check so just break those psps that have those motherboards. I agree with you about not getting it done by them. You need to find a shop that everyone knows has done it a million times, I dont know any shops though.

Downgrading isnt just about playing copied games though, there are alot of software applications made for downgraded psps that are really very good: pda and organiser style programs, music editing software where you can make your own songs from scratch, even nice games (not state of the art but nice), all totally legal and free since they are made by programmers and put on the net for free use. This site has tons of psp homebrew downloads if you are curious about what I'm talking about= http://dl.qj.net/PSP/catid/106

you are right. I just tried to keep my post short. It is the downgrade that is the problem.

According to my son the copy games have problems about hanging etc.

The four guys who had their PSP trashed have the motherboard as he has.

When he first got the PSP it had firmware 1.50 and he could play copy games and homebrew but frequently had problems, so he decided to upgrade and now only legit games work. He has an allowance for four legit games per year and is happy about it.

my original post was only about Thai fonts and it is clear now it is a no-go, so be it.

he will just have to sit down and rename the files into English on his PC and re-load them.

thanks for all your replies

There is a possibility that someone has made a homebrew for Thai fonts in Thailand but it probably wouldn't be on any english websites, if you want to look into it one last time you could ask at pantip and mbk and see if they had heard of anything like that. If they haven't heard of it, then it probably doesn't exist.
