Siam Rath reported that a female driver aged about 50 was caught on CCTV plowing into the front of the Pharma Med chemists on the Bang Bo Road in Samut Prakan.

She was supposed to be reversing after coming into the store to buy her meds.

The owner of the store Pornkanok Sianglam was with her husband at the time but they were both lucky to escape injury as the car hit a table and the counter.

She told the media over the phone that the damage had still not been repaired after the incident last Monday.

Near closing time a woman aged about 50 and her daughter had come into the store, made their purchases and left.

She asked the older lady driver if she had gone into the wrong gear but she was too shocked to reply leaving her daughter to contact the insurance company.

Pornkanok said that no repairs have yet been made giving her concern about drugs that need to be kept in air-conditioning and possible theft at night.

She reported the matter to the Bang Bo police.

Failure to put the brain in gear.  Ladies needs to be retested.  In the US when you hit a certain age you must do an eye exam as part of the recertification procedure.......here I have never observed an eye test for driving except the first time I obtained my licenses.....

Over a week to get the store front sorted? is there a shortage of shop fitters in Samut Prakan or what?

My mate had a pretty bad fire in the carvery area of his restaurant a week last Friday. He was open for business only 5 days later.

Thailand is like UK -  there is no test when you get old, but you do have to sign a form saying that you can still see ok !!

Why is the headline 'older female driver'?

- older than who?

- why point out she's female? Would they have specified 'male' if the driver was a guy?

Oh, and since when is 50 old? ????????????????

I turn 51 next week! ????

This is a Toyota? and there was a huge recall on them in Australia, maybe the young lady got a lemon?

Wrong gear ! , but you should pull away slowly,

then realise you are in the wrong gear, not shoot

forward.

I find automatics have a tendency to lurch forward because when the driver selects the gear they should be covering the brake but often forget to do so.  They select D and off they go and in a panic often hit the accelerator.

Presumably the eye test is to ensure the driver can recognise the difference between 'D' and 'R' ?

This is the way I see this happening…

Wrong gear (auto car - FWD not Rev)…

Panic, then foot hard to the floor.

underlying cause - an utter flookwit at the wheel…

My wife & I (& many others) waited an excessively long time for someone to ‘pull out’ of a parking space yesterday.
The tiny old lady really should not be driving anymore… quite worrisome to consider these folk also get up to speed…
