BANGKOK, June 23 (TNA) – GrabBike riders gathered at the parliament and the Ministry of Transport to seek the cancellation of a plan to end their taxi service on July 15 and call for its legalization.

The motorcyclists first met at CentralWorld shopping center before going to the parliament and the Ministry of Transport. They asked the Department of Land Transport to postpone the exclusion of private motorcycles from the GrabBike service and instead legalize their app-based service.

Most of them are a bloody menace on the road

they're unlicensed to carry passenger and therefore uninsured,

but are they better than the local motorcycle taxi mafia? yes but the area they are operating is clearly illegal

granted in order to get the yellow registration plate to carry passenger you need approval from the members of an existing rank, guess you'll have to pay the motocyc mafia to join them

plus criminal background check, which judging by the tempers of many of these rider, they probably could not pass

Another fine mess.

Let them deliver food, letters and packages but not passengers. Also try to have them to drive more cautious. It's obvious they earn money based on how many deliveries they do so they drive like crazy and risk their and other lives just to be able to do a few more deliveries in a day.

They are badly in need of a good thin out!

Why not allow them to be armed so they can shoot their way out of traffic ? These guys are complete and absolute morons and endanger not only their own lives but those of many others also.

I agree with you they should drive more cautiously but unfortunately the majority of them are Thai males where the meaning of the word is totally lost.  Now if the GRAB company offered say a 1000 baht reward for any motorist with a cam inside the car that would show these delivery drivers acting dangerously so that they could be sacked, perhaps then the company itself not shirk it's own responsibilities towards ensuring the health and safety of its's "employees" , I know that they are not really employed but still under contract I assume.

Maybe put a cap on how many kilometers they are allowed to drive in a day. And fine them if they are caught exceeding the limit.

Free competition means equal official demands, like color of registration plate, driver permission, and insurance...

There is no problem here. Just make all form of taxis have the right license and plates for it.
