Tourists in the area between the Khao Yai national park and Wang Nam Khiaw, Nakhon Ratchasima, NE Thailand, have been warned about elephants on the highways.

On Thursday one 25 year old bull elephant with the name "Chao Nga Bin" (the one with the chipped tusk) was helping himself to a snack of corn, banana trees and bamboo near the village of Ban Sankamphaeng, reported Daily News.

Rescue teams spent an hour trying to coax him back to the forests of Khao Yai.

Phu Yai Ban Arun Kaewsamakhee said that five elephants were loooking for crops to eat every night from 9 pm.

Tourists on the highways should be particularly careful as the pachyderms cross the roads.
