The National Security Council (NSC) should not be in charge of introducing economic measures and the emergency decree to prevent Covid-19 should be lifted, a senior member of the Pheu Thai Party said on Friday.

“General Prayut made a huge mistake when he decided to use the NSC to handle the energy and inflation problems because this was a total mismatch and completely unnecessary,” Chaturon Chaisang told Thai Enquirer by phone.

His comments came after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha this week appointed the NSC to be in charge of planning and introducing measures to mitigate rising energy prices and inflation.

Pheu Thai party renews call for PM to scrap emergency decree

The opposition Pheu Thai party has renewed its call for Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to revoke the Emergency Decree, claiming that the special law, which was imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19 more than two years ago, is no longer relevant because the status of the pandemic is steadily improving.

Pheu Thai party leader Chonlanan Srikaew said today (Friday) that retaining the law, as the country is moving towards classifying COVID-19 as an endemic disease, will be counter-productive to economic development and rehabilitation of the country, as well as public participation in matters of public interest.

A statement, issued by the party today, said that the decree was supposed to contain the pandemic, but it has been misused, through the issuance of a regulation to control public gatherings and arrests of students and many other people who defied the decree.

Of course everyone knew that this suppression of protests was always the main reason for the decree

Most also know Prayut can never lift it before elections in November for obvious reasons

Problem though is , Thailand is at the moment FINALLY seeing a bit of light finally seeing some possible income headed

back to the little people thru tourism

This tho is a powder keg that could quickly end all of that so timing wise it sucks for the normal people

This question should have been raised long ago & of course still needs addressing but this timing really is terrible

for actual Thai people in need

Misused depends on ones point of view.

Prayut would say it did exactly what it was supposed to do.

It's all about particular attention gathering.....and little else.

Don't be silly this is Thailand, the pre requisite for a job in government is that you are unqualified and can march up and down a parade square all day while listening to a barking dog telling you what to do next.

You think ? I would suggest he does exactly what he is told, the reason he was given the nod to stage his coup in the first place.
