House and building owners in Bangkok have been urged to check for fire risks and escape routes in their premises and surrounding areas and to ensure that their fire extinguishers are in good working order.

The advice was offered by Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt yesterday afternoon (Sunday), following a fatal blaze in Chinatown’s Sampeng Market, in which two people died and six others suffered the effects of smoke inhalation. Four shophouses, three cars, four motorcycles and many goods in the buildings were burned.

The governor said that, since most houses in Bangkok have window grilles, making it impossible for people inside to get out, the house owners and occupants should check areas in their premises which are vulnerable to fire and survey the escape routes in case there is a fire.

What's Bangkok governor got to do with submarine purchases? It's too late for those who already died, but might help avoid some deaths in the future...

Thai lethargy...

If every Thai who is fed-up with the government got out in the street and said something then changes might happen.

But they stay home, stay silent and put-up with it.

So no changes.

One hotel I stayed in a hotel in Thailand I only stayed one night.   I moved to another hotel the next day after I found the first hotel had chained and locked the fire escape doors.
On returning to the U.S. I went shopping for bolt / lock / chain cutters with folding handles to take to Thailand.
