Hi

I changed my address here in Bangkok and today went to Suan Plu to notify them. But they seemed pretty confused and insisted on giving me the 90-day-reporting form, although I explained that was not due until August. When I handed the 90-day-reporting form to the lady, she told me I didn't have to notify the address change but could do it in connection with my next 90-day-reporting...

So, I guess they don't care about an address change anymore? Or do I risk running into some problem next time I leave the country or visit immigration?

Thanks

The are interested in you reporting your address every 90 days with the TM.47 reporting. They are not interested in keeping an up to the minute record. Your landlords or hotels should be reporting your movements to police in another reporting procedure.

Thanks. Guess I'm in the clear then :o

I would not rely on landlords reporting anything.

If you move house and have not let Immigration know you will have problems on your next 90 day report

or when you need a letter to buy a car or something similar.

However if you travel up country and stay at a hotel, then I would not worry about that level of detail.

lopburi and astral are at odds on this.

i will have a new address in chiang rai in august (though i am going to maintain my current one in chiang mai for an overlap of a few months.

in july and august i will need to renew my driving license, my car insurance and registration - and these are valid for 5 years and 1 year.

presently i'm abroad but will return in early august.

question(s):

am i best off notifying the chiang mai office of my address change and thereafter doing my renewals in chiang rai giving my new address? or

can i simply do the renewals on my chiang rai address and notify my address change at the 90-day reporting date?

My experience is that they arent really bothered about WHERE you say you are living, but that you have actually reported SOMEWHERE every 90 days. Just make sure you've got a current receipt for 90 day reporting in your passport.

In Phuket, the receipt is valid for a year. i.e. every 3 months they stamp the same receipt up to 4 times (1 year) and then you fill another form in. So i only show my actual lease once a year. The other 3 stamps are just confirming i've been in and stated that nothing has changed.

Unsurprisingly in Thailand - this may differ ever so slightly from region to region.
