BANGKOK, July 19 (TNA) – Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin warned Thai women not to be lured into forced prostitution by bogus job brokers who pretended to offer them spa jobs in the United Arab Emirates.

 

The minister said that there were many advertisements on Facebook inviting women to spa massage, marketing, personnel management and gambling website administration jobs in the UAE. Such advertisements offered high returns and payment for air fares and tourist and visit visas, he said.

These "job" offers have been going on and known about for many years and it's only now the Thai authorities decide to issue a public warning.

Agreed. I know one lady that goes back every year for a well paid 'massage job' !

It's too much of a double-edged sword to teach "due diligence", isn't it?

I know ladies who fell for such schemes. Usually, they can't get out for 30 days.

Actually, Filipinas in UAE have more straight job opportunities because they speak English better than Thai ladies.

You are probably correct but the straight job opportunities usually involve domestic service where they are kept as if they were  slaves. More than one case of Arabs domestic Filipino servants running from their masters and asking for help at UK police stations. Domestic servants can be brought into the uk without passports

Actually, i was referring to jobs in shops dealing with English speaking customers. Plenty of ladies from the Philippines in the shops, virtually zero Thai ladies.

It was on the BBC website qute some time ago when the scandal of domestic servants being kept like slaves by Arab Families in the UK was revealed they are treated like children who can be brought in on their parent's passport, they effectively had no status. It may have changed since
