Thailand's department of disease control says the number of covid infections has leveled off at around 200, 000 a week, with infections rising slightly up country while Bangkok remains stable. 

 

The number of fatalities remains stable at around 20 a day. The department says the numbers are likely to  all in a few weeks.

 

The captain of a Nok Air aircraft that skidded off the runway at Chiang Rai airport on Saturday will be quizzes by regulators to explain why passengers were kept on board for about an hour after the accident.

 

The aircraft engines were shut down  leaving the passengers in darkness and without air conditioning.

 

Two Thai nationals were detained by Malaysian authorities for three days after they consumed drinks containing cannabis in Thailand then crossed the border.

 

The two were each find around 50 thousand baht before being released. Malaysian Customs are stepping up checks at its borders to curb the smuggling of cannabis from Thailand, 


The government has ordered 1,000 doses of monkeypox vaccine which it says will be used for high risk groups, the vaccines will be given by injection and should be available by the end of the month.  

 

Police are investigating fraud involving mushrooms and some 18 hundred victims that lost almost 1.9 billion baht. People were tricked into investing in mushroom farms by well known personalities who marketed the idea, saying no work would be required and investors would receive a dividend of  18 to 30% a month.

 

However, funds dried up and complaints were made to the police. The main suspects are thought to have fled the country late last year, however Interpol has been contacted in an attempt to bring the suspects back to Thailand.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida yesterday urged all nuclear states to conduct themselves "responsibly" in non-proliferation efforts at a time when he said the road to a world without nuclear arms had become much more difficult.
