Athletics - Toni Minichiello has been banned from coaching for life by UK Athletics over sexually inappropriate conduct after being found to have committed "gross breaches of trust".


The 56-year-old, who had been subject of multiple complaints from women in athletics, was found to have committed 11 serious charges by an independent case-management group. The findings relate to anonymous athletes over a 15-year period.

 

Football -   Barcelona are still to register any new players before this weekend's La Liga opener with Rayo Vallecano.They are  striker Robert Lewandowski and forward Raphinha as well as Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and midfielder Franck Kessie.

 

Barca have been wrestling with severe financial issues, which need to be addressed to comply with La Liga's strict financial regulations.

 

English Premier League side Everton have signed Belgium midfielder Amadou Onana from Lille for £33m. The 20-year-old  becomes Everton's fifth signing of the summer.

 

No real shocks in the Champions League Qualifying matches played last night but Glasgow Rangers did produce the comeback of the round after losing the first leg 2-0 they won 3-2 at Ibrox against Union Saint-Gilloise.

 

Tennis - Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion and one of tennis' greatest players, has spoken about retirement - saying she is "evolving away" from the sport after the US Open.

 

Writing for Voguethe American said she is moving towards "other things that are important to her", adding she does not like the word "retirement".

 

In an accompanying Instagram post, she wrote that "the countdown has begun", the 40 year old said.
