Former Sri Lankan president Gotabaya Rajapaksa arrived in Thailand on Thursday,  as he seeks temporary shelter in a second Southeast Asian country after fleeing his island nation last month amid mass protests.

Rajapaksa arrived at Bangkok’s Don Mueang airport on a chartered flight from Singapore after the city-state’s immigration authority said in a statement on Thursday he had left Singapore.

Rajapaksa is expected to stay temporarily in Thailand after fleeing Sri Lanka for Singapore on July 14. He resigned from office shortly afterwards following unprecedented unrest over his government’s handling of the worst economic crisis in seven decades, and days after thousands of protesters stormed the president‘s official residence and office.

There must be a Superich AirBnB operating for stinking rich oligarchs fleeing accountability. Just because you have to flee your asset stripped country doesn't mean the luxury stops there. All quite reciprocal of course.

e.g. chartered flight into Don Muang...

Wouldn't be surprised if he bought an Elite visa and lived like a king here until he can sort things out. Quality tourist at its best.

Really, he should be sent back to be dealt by his people. But hey, this is the world we live in and Thailand is not going to take a step against dictatorship, right?

Thailand can put up this rich fella until his money runs out.                                                                                                                                                          He does not need the security that he would need if he stayed in Sri Lanka.

Will depend who gives the bigger brown envelope, the ex-president or Sri Lankans who want him back. Money is #1 in this "Buddhist" country...
