51 lecturers in law from 15 universities have submitted an open letter to the president and judges of the Constitutional Court, insisting that Prime Minister Prayut’s   8-year term in office is due to finish on August 24th.


They quoted the constitution stating “the prime minister shall not hold office for more than eight years in total, whether or not holding consecutive terms.


Meanwhile: the Thai party’s deputy leader said Prime Minister Prayut could stay on while the Constitutional Court takes time to rule on his eight-year tenure.

 

A royal Thai air force spokesman say the 12 days of military exercises with the Chinese underway in Udon Thani have nothing to do with recent tensions between China and Taiwan, adding these are apart of a series of drill that were organised two years ago,  both sides have taken this opportunity to strengthen their relationship and foster improved communications.

 

Two female retired teachers jumped from a bridge into a canal in Trad, yesterday in what appears to have been a double suicide.


Police say both were related and taught at the same school, they found teacher id cards and a note for their children in their car, both women had been in debt and apologized to their children for having to repay debts. 

 
A police officer in Phuket has been sentenced to 25 years in jail after shooting a noodle vendor in Patong in February last year,


The 25 year old told police he was drunk when he shot the vendor. In sentencing the court awarded damages to the victims family of more than 7.9 million baht.


Bangkok's local authority the BMA may drop plans to move overhead electric and telecommunication cables underground, due to cost, estimated at 19 billion baht.


If the project is to proceed then the cost may need to be shared between telecoms companies and the NBTC telecoms regulator. Neither of which have shown interest to foot the bill.

The 69 year old will appeal to the  country’s highest court tomorrow after his request for an adjournment was denied.


Razak faces 12 years in jail and 210 million ringgit  in fines if convicted.
