Requirements for a Visa on arrival

Recommended Posts

My friends from America who haven't been here in two years are planning a trip to Thailand in Feb 2023.

Some have Covid vaccinations, some do not.

What are the current requirements for a VOA based a vaccination status.  I need to send them all the information they'll need for entering and touring Thailand next February.  These are US businessmen and as usual they are planning a one month stay.

If your friends are American, they do not qualify for a 15-day visa on arrival. They will receive a visa exemption, providing currently a 30-day permission to stay but in February almost certainly 45 days. It is early to be sure of Covid related requirements. Currently, you would need either (i) at least two vaccine jabs; or (ii) a pre departure Covid test.

That list isn't very accurate! Estonia and Czech Republic citizens can get visa exempt entry (as well as Australians as mentioned by UJ).

This information has been updated on 24 June, 2022.

The following rules will be in effect from 1 July, 2022, with specific requirements for vaccinated and unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated travellers from all countries/territories with scheduled arrivals from this date.

Pre-arrival requirements

Vaccinated travellers must have the following documents for entering Thailand:

·         A valid passport, or a border pass for arrivals via border checkpoints.

·         A Certificate of COVID-19 Vaccination

o    Everyone 18 years of age and older must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 with an approved vaccine at least 14 days before travelling to Thailand.

o    Travellers 5-17 years of age travelling to Thailand unaccompanied must get vaccinated with at least 1 dose of an approved vaccine at least 14 days before travelling to Thailand. Those travelling with parents are exempt from this requirement.

Unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated travellers must have the following documents for entering Thailand:

·         A valid passport, or a border pass for arrivals via border checkpoints.

On Arrival Requirements

Upon arriving in Thailand, all travellers must undergo entry screening including body temperature check, and present the required documents to the Immigration/Health Control officer to carry out the checks.

The vaccinated travellers will then be allowed entry and are free to go anywhere in the kingdom. *For arrivals by land using a border pass, they will be allowed a stay of no longer than 3 days within the specified areas only.

Likewise, unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated travellers who have proof of a negative result from an RT-PCR test or professional ATK within 72 hours of travel will be allowed entry and are free to go anywhere in the kingdom.

The unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated travellers without a negative test result within 72 hours of travel are required to follow the public health instructions and guidelines as deemed appropriate by the Health Control officer at the point of arrival. All expenses incurred will be the responsibility of the travellers.

During the Stay

·         While in Thailand, both vaccinated and unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated travellers are advised to strictly follow the health and safety standards. Travellers who are experiencing COVID-like symptoms should get tested. If testing positive, they must get the appropriate medical treatment.

We wish all visitors an enjoyable, safe, and rewarding holiday in Thailand during this exciting time in which we are able again to welcome travellers from around the world.

Do you know the difference between VOA and 'visa exemption?'
And they all are US citizens.  Thanks.

A visa exemption means that you do not need a visa to enter Thailand for a short period for tourism purposes. It is available mostly to citizens of wealthy countries. Those with a permission to stay from a visa exempt entry have options to extend their stay also. Some citizens of, generally, middle income countries (such as China and India) do not qualify for visa exemption, but can queue up to buy a visa at the airport allowing only a 15-day stay and no ability to extend their stay further. That is what a "visa on arrival" means.

Thanks for posting this.  Looks like you don't need the injections or the test to enter the country.  Lots of misinformation on various threads about "show your vaccine certificate".  The Thai government has sobered up. Maybe Canada will someday too.

My advice (and others)  to show vaccination certificate is advice directed to those that have been vaccinated.

For those that are unvaccinated, yes you can come to Thailand be aware of what the airline and immigration at arrival may require such as a negative test result.

Not sure where you got that list. Australia is not on the list for visas on arrival.

See: List of countries for visa exempt and visas on arrival dated October 2021.

@ubonjoe.  Do US citizens enter Thailand "Visa Exempt?"  I'm just looking for info to forward on to my friends as I was asked for help.
Thanks.

USA citizens can enter Thailand visa exempt and granted 30 day permit.

Note: that may be increased to 45 (seems that will happen soon)

Each entry visa exempt can be extended by 30 days
