Football -  Last night's English Premier League action saw Southampton beat Chelsea 2-1 and that was the same score as Fulham ended Brighton's unbeaten start to the season. Leeds United and Everton drew 1-1 at Elland Road and Crystal Palace also drew 1-1 at Selhurst Park against Brentford.

 

In Italy there were wins for Roma and Inter Milan but AC Milan could only draw 0-0 with Sassuolo. 

Manchester United have confirmed they have reached an agreement to sign Brazil winger Antony from Ajax.

The deal is for an initial fee of 95m euros which will be subject to a medical, personal terms being finalised for international clearance.

 

Defending champions Thailand will face last year's runners-up Indonesia in the group phase of the Asean Football Federation Championship after the draw was made yesterday.

 

The Philippines, Cambodia and the winners of a playoff between Brunei and Timor-Leste complete the line-up for Group A.

 

Golf -  British Open champion Cameron Smith has become the highest-ranked player to join the Saudi Arabian-funded LIV Golf series.

 

The 29-year-old world number two has been confirmed in the field for the next LIV tournament in Boston.

 

Tennis - Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina suffered a shock defeat by qualifier Clara Burel in the US Open first round. Seeded 25th in New York, the 23-year-old was beaten 6-4 6-4 by world number 131 Burel.
