Sanook reported that people wishing to renew their driving licences can continue to do so at many Department of Land Transport Centers outside normal opening hours throughout September.

You can renew your licence from 8.30 - 6 pm Monday to Friday and 8.30 - 4.30 pm on Saturdays (excluding public holidays).

You must register a time using the DLT Smart Queue appointment system.

It was not made clear if the extended service would continue beyond this month, notes ASEAN NOW.

An infographic gave details of where the public could renew headed by DLT offices 1-5 in Bangkok, provincial centers, surrounding areas of Bangkok and tourism areas.

The list is:

Central Region:

Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Ayutthaya, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Suphanburi, Chachoengsao, Lopburi and Saraburi.

The North:

Nakhon Sawan, Phitsanulok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Kamphaengphet.

North East:

Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Ubon, Buriram, Surin, Udon, Mahasarakham and Chaiyaphum.

East:

Chonburi, Rayong and Prachinburi.

West (and towards south):

Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Phetchaburi

South:

Surat Thani, Phuket, Songkhla and Nakhon Sri Thammarat.

DLT chief Jirut Wisanjit announced that between 11th July and 20th August 17, 632 people in Bangkok had extended licences out of hours and 54,146 in the provinces for a grand total of 71,778.

ASEAN NOW notes that much of the backlog has been caused by people not renewing their licences during the pandemic.

Covid protocols remain in force at DLT offices, cautioned Sanook.

My licence expired last year. Any chance of getting it renewed?

You can renew up to 12 months late. So if your DL expired pre-Sept 2021 (i.e., more than 12 months), then you will need to start from scratch again.

Does anyone know if you need to take that elearning online before going for an appointment?

I would like to warn the general public in Pattaya, that my wife is doing her driving licence / course this weekend, so please stay in this weekend 10th and 11th.

Not without the proverbial 2-3 day course of video, written and trivial parking testing.

The caveat, of course, is locale/situationally dependent on the facility. Universal regulations and processing not applying.

It's more than quite possible [again...depending where you renew] that one can process a renewal by going through regular channels - can be done in about an hour without the extras.
