People in Mae Ai district, Chiang Mai have been warned of disasters from heavy rain

The Water Resources Regional Office 1 warns villagers in Mae Ai district of Chiang Mai province of very heavy rain. The villagers living near water resources have been advised to evacuate as soon as possible.

Mr. Veerawuth Pornrattanaphan (วีระวุธ พรรัตน์พันธุ์), the head of Chiang Mai Hydrology Division of the Water Resources Regional Office 1, reports that tambon Tha Ton in Mae Ai district has encountered very heavy rain since this morning (Jun 25). The measurement of rainfall this morning was 101 millimeters, and this substantial amount could cause flash flood and mudslide.

For public safety, people living near water resources in the area have been warned of natural disasters, and they have been asked to follow the weather updates closely.

Northern provinces are warned of mudslide and forest flood

The Department of Mineral Resources has issued an announcement, warning people in risky areas of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, and other nearby provinces of potential mudslide and forest flood.

Mr. Apichai Chawacharoenphan, the Director-General of the Mineral Resources Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, says people living in high areas and certain villages in the northern region of Thailand of possible forest flood and mudslide during this period. He says such natural disasters my occur due to continuous rainfall and at the moment, over 100 millimeters of rain have been accumulated.

Mr. Apichai has warned motorists of road obstructions as rocks from cliffs may collapse and mudslide may occur. However, he says the volunteers of the Mineral Resources Department are keeping a close watch on the situation.
