Football - In last night's UEFA Champions League in group A Napoli won 6-1 at Dutch side Ajax and Liverpool beat Glasgow Rangers 2-0 at Anfield. In Group B Club Bruges beat Atletico Madrid 2-0 and that was the same score as FC Porto defeated Bayer Leverkusen. Group C saw a big win for Bayern Munich who beat Viktoria Plzen 5-0 and Inter Milan defeated Barcelona 1-0. In Group D Marseille hammered Sporting Lisbon 4-1 and Eintracht Frankfurt and Tottenham Hotspur drew 0-0.

 

Cricket - West Indies batter Shimron Hetmyer will not play at the Men's T20 World Cup after he missed a rescheduled flight to Australia before the tournament. His flight was moved from Saturday to Monday for family reasons, meaning he would miss the first of two T20 warm-ups against Australia today. The 25-year-old has been replaced by Shamarh Brooks.

 

F1 - Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone will face trial in October next year over an alleged failure to declare overseas assets.The 91-year-old appeared in court yesterday charged with a single count of fraud by false representation. He has denied the allegations of failing to declare a trust in Singapore with a bank account containing funds of around $650m.

 

Women's Volleyball - In the FIVB Women's World Championship round one  match played last night Thailand were  beaten by Canada 3 sets to 1.
