Petchkasem area police were called after a 14 year old boy drowned in the Rat Samakhi canal behind the school of Wat Bamrung in Petchkasem Soi 69, Bang Khae, Bangkok yesterday evening.

 

Four school pupils were on their way home and decided to have a swim in the canal that is 4 meters wide and six meters deep.

 

Poh Teck Tung rescue took half an hour to find "Nam", a M3 pupil aged 14, who had disappeared in front of three other friends.

 

Nam or Sittiphat had said he would jump one last time but he suffered an attack of cramp, reported Daily News.

 

His friends tried to save him by holding out a long stick but were unable to do so.

 

The victim was fished out still weraring his red PE kit and black shorts.

 

His friends expressed great sorrow at being unable to save him.
