toast1
Searching from start menu prompt never works properly in either software. Win 11, the file is not available, so I have to click on Documents, for it to appear in serarch results. Win10 it often just didn't appear. Files in my DropBox folder often do not appear, after clicking on Documents. Sometimes I hvae to go to Expolorer or open DropBox to find the file. Most of the time they do appear, not sometimes not. Once I've opened the fil, then it will appear on the next search, but if its been a long time, they sometimes do not. Had this problem for a year. Otherwise everything else in the OS works fine. Anyone know how I can fix this?
VBF
Did you try asking "Mr Google" before positing on here? I would! If, for example you search using " win 10 search not working " (w/o inverted commas), one of the many responses is here: https://www.techradar.com/how-to/how-to-fix-search-problems-in-windows-10 Having told you how to get answers, I would suggest concentrating on the paragraph "How to fix Windows 10 search problems by rebuilding the index" I've found that corrupted indexes to be a common cause of searching issues. BEFORE you do though, look up sfc /scannow in Google. (SFC = System File Checker) One result here How to Run System File Checker sfc /scannow in Windows 11/10 File corruptions cause a multitude of problems, not just searching. Familiarise yourself with it...it's damn useful ???? Remember to run it in an ELEVATED command prompt, and that if you have an HDD as opposed to an SSD, it can take several hours to run. Without it I couldn't use my computer anymore... Have about 12 TB software and data including backups. And it does not help that I am getting older and more forgetful every day ????
toast1
Thanks, I'll try that software out. I find Search does't work well sometimes on my Win11 PC or Laptop. Even after a Clean reinstall, had the same problem!

toast1
Is this a Win11 problem? I searched for a file today, it didn't even come up as a document. I had to manually click on Documents in the taskbar search, for it to come up. This seems to be a new feature in Win11. In Win10 the file would often come up below, under Documents. Happens on Win 10 too. I suggest you look at my reply above Posted Monday at 05:39 PM as this has worked for me. I haven't tried this program called "Everything" simply because I prefer to sort out problems using Windows "native" features whenever possible....just my MO to avoid adding "bloatware" to my computers so I have no comments on such programs. Thanks Try this Everything. It is small and if you don't like it simply uninstall it. I never would waste my time with the Windows search.
