Universum has released the findings from the Thailand portion of its annual global talent survey, with more than 12,700 participating students from 23 Thailand universities.

The research sets out to track the career aspirations and preferences of Thailand’s future talent pool, the student survey also recognises the most coveted employers based solely on the responses collected.

In this year’s survey, Google retains the top spot as the most ideal employer among business students, a crown it has held since 2020. Followed by Shopee, who has leapt up the ideal employer ranking by six places and landed as the second most attractive employer in the ideal employer ranking. Meanwhile, local champion PTT has once again being selected as the number one employer of choice among engineering talent.

Thai students have a strong desire for remote work opportunities

According to the research, remote work is one of the key talent magnets for Thai students. This year, 93% of them expressed their interest in remote working opportunities, while their main concern about remote work is that they will overextend themselves, which will affect the work-life balance they want for themselves.

These names don’t surprise me…. Google could be seen as a forward/future looking type of employer, and one that will also be seen by others as a respectable name as well.  Plus google might also carry some measure of “safety” in terms of hiring onto an established firm and with less risk of job loss due to company insolvency when at the beginning of one’s work career ladder.

PTT is in the same vein… Another firm that might be seen as reputable, known and seen as “safe” and reliable.

Id be very surprised if there was much demand for truly entrepreneurial positions - as I’d guess many new graduates are also somewhat beholden to the financial liability of their families..  so going for a pure entrepreneurial play as first-job i’d guess is simply too much risk for many at that entry level.

I also think that in a country like Thailand, where a “name” carries a lot of weight/value/clout, there’s not a lot of “wow” that will be attached in going the entrepreneurial way over a firm that known kingdom-wide.

quite strange the results considering these 3 companies have a very different culture and work environment.

i have visited these workplaces and google by far have the most benefits in their “campuses” but not as good as PTT that even goes the extra mile to get health insurance for the whole family.

if you ask the actual employees working in each, the answer will be quite different.

PTT still seems like best to go for in Thailand. but not google Thailand, instead Google Singapore.
