Daily News Thai Caption: Why did it happen?

Daily News reported that Bang Poo police in Samut Prakan, south east of Bangkok, received a report that a large crane had collapsed at a construction site onto electricity wires.

It happned in Soi 11 at the industrial estate.

They found a 60 ton crane toppled into the street at a building site for a factory.

It had brought down ten power poles.

A Vigo pick-up was under the arm of the crane.

Two other vehicles in the area were damaged but there were no deaths or injuries on this occasion.

Electricity was cut as repairs took place. These were expected to be completed by early morning.

Security at an adjacent factory spoke of how he wondered if a pole would fall his way but it went in the other direction as he prepared to leap out of his hut.

He said factory employees were sent home for the day as there was no electricity.

A police led investigation is underway to handle the case and try to discover why the crane fell over.

Couple of clues , trying to lift too much weight , or not set up properly in the first place,

seems to happen quite regular here ....

Untrained crane operaters all over Thailand. Just to point out a 60ton crane means it can pick up 60 tons, boom right in, direct lift from front of cab stabilizers out full and correct counter weights fitted. any other lift has to be carefully calculated by the operator. maths is a must, even when reading the manual. Oh and strict rules near power lines, in the real world. ex crane technician.

That seems to be a foreign concept for many people - and not only Thais.

Land of toppling bamboo cranes all normal apart from anyone being wiped out ????

yuu got it in one.......

Just my ten peneth.

The crane boom went over side ways suggesting side loading the boom or slewing to fast and sharp stopping. This with poor support under the crane outriggers and possibly overloading. But one thing is for sure is there is very little health and safety in the work place in Thailand.
