The Chinese government will continue to try and increase their control over Thai media, the founder of a Thai student publishing house which said that a Chinese businessman tried to buy them out told Thai Enquirer.

“China has been influencing Thailand for a long time now and their attempt to try and buy our small publication made me think how many news agencies in Thailand have already been supported by China which is why they do not dare to speak about Chinese issues,” said Netiwit Chotiphatphaisal, a pro-democracy activist and founder of the Sam Yan Press.

“We thought about staying silence on the matter because it was risky but if we remain silence, people will not know about this attempt to control a Thai publication by China and the need for Thai press to be free from influences from abroad,” he said.

The publication, which translated and published many books that were critical to Beijing’s human rights records include those of political dissidents in China such as Liu Xiobo and Ilham Tohti, said in a series of tweets and a statement that they were approached by an investigator from a private investigation company in Bangkok which has a Chinese client who wanted to offer the publication 2 million Baht for them to shut down.

I think Ho Chi Minh summed it up when he refused assistance from China in the US war. He said better to sniff US shet for a few years than EAT Chinese shet forever

Outstanding!!! - well done Sam Yan Press, it gives one hope

Wonder if Indians and Russians do that with other media, such as online forums?

So he wanted them to change their name for 6 months and then go back to using it? Just so the company was operating under a different name during CCP conference?

“Despite asking them to shut down their publication, the email with the offer stated that members of the publication can continue to publish books that are critical to the Chinese government with a new company under a new name.

It also stated that the publication can also wait 6 months after they shut down before going back to using the same name and the 2-million Baht deal would still stand.”

10000000% they do. Didn't you hear recently a country had 1200+ fake twitter accounts?

And as as far as product reviews now, particularly for Chinese products can not believe any of them. The bogger companies and govts pump millions into this sort of stuff. And works both ways too having people doing negative reviews on competitors products

For people who have developed an ethnic hatred for people of other countries (regardless if these are citizens of Country A or Country B or Country C being raised and propagandized via regional media to despise the countries whom their governments, corporations, and "king-makers" tell them to despise and hate:

Here's the problem.  These 'common folk' of the general public really don't analyze or question what the actual Geo-political facts actually are.  They simple accept propaganda they are fed and repeat it verbatim.  The problem on all sides is that each entity is calling their sworn "enemies" "liars, propagandists, and disinformation agents."  And yet, regardless of the county, the ruling elite and the monied interests who form their domestic and foreign policy feed the general public - lies, propaganda, and disinformation.  Why.  You gotta get your own commoners and public grunts on your side.

Here is what most of the 'common-folk' in the general public (globally) don't understand and simply can't grasp:  Your voice doesn't count and you're considered little but an expendable pawn on the global chessboard.   To quote Stalin, "A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic."

Not directly relevant to the topic, but your quote and version of history are both a tad confused. Ho reportedly said what you are misquoting above after WW2 when he allowed French troops to reenter Vietnam with reference to the French and Chinese. When the Vietnam war started, though, he took plenty of Chinese aid, both in the form of military manpower as well as materiel and money. Not that it matters because, as you (and Ho!) implied, Chinese tentacles are hard to shake off.

Poetic license lol, and yes you are indeed correct. I had a Chinese girl friend back home...her father very high up in the military in China. She was under the opinion (taught)  that Vietnam had repeatedly attacked and invaded China over the last 2 centuries lol. I love Vietnam and its people. She used to refer to it as "that horrible little country you are so fond of"

Except he didn't refuse assistance.

The Chinese helped the Vietnamese train their military commanders; reorganize their defense and financial systems, including tax and fiscal policy; and create a solid economic base. They also helped the Vietnamese to mobilize the peasants to support war through land reform campaigns. Overall, there was a massive transfer of the Chinese experience of making revolution to the Vietnamese.

Do you actually believe that the CCP keeps its word?

I find it hard to credit the CCP could be this inept in shutting down the press.

This begs the question: isn’t our beloved T.V. parent company owned by the Chinese now?

and in 1982 the Viets gave the Chinese invaders a good kicking as well.

(unlikely to happen in Thailand, of course)

China has already bought Thailand!  I applaude these guys but way too late.

I like it here, but the writing has been on the wall for a long time now.

If people keep repeating this quote, then it almost becomes a factual quote. However, according to the following web site, it may not be true.

https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Talk:Ho_Chí_Minh

This site says that it is disputed that he said that, & may have been fabricated by a French colonialist to justify their occupation in Vietnam. But why let that get in the way of a good story/quote.
