Chainsaw users - what oil do you use on the chain/bar?

Not really much to add to the topic title really.

There seems to be significant variation of opinion on the internet, everything from motor oil to canola or other veggie oil.

So, here in sunny Thailand, what do you use??

I can not find any real chainbar oil over here so for

the last ten years or so i am using the heaviest grade gear oil i can get.

It is not sticky like real chain bar oil but it does the job.

I don't know off hand what grade it is but just ask for the thickest  gear oil.

I bottle some of the oil drained from our motor bikes and scoots when oil servicing them for outside padlocks, locks, hinges, gate wheels,  hedgecutters and chainsaw.

My little electric chainsaw oil chamber leaks so we just use whatever 2nd hand oil we have.

It's usually hydraulic oil from the tractor pto leak bucket.

The oil is the least of my problem.

Back in July i bought three extra chains.

Same brand as the saw and 11.5 inch on the packet and assured to fit by the salesman.

Fil just told me yesterday they don't fit,to short.????

Wondered why he was taking so long as stopping to sharpen original one all the time.

The fun will begin on Monday when i head back to the shop in search of the right ones.

Some automatic oiling saws require thicker oil to work properly and might be more prone to leaking when not in use with a thinner oil.  I would recommend using normal bar and chain oil it is a little more expensive but not enough to break the bank.
