An under construction illegal luxury casino which was preparing to be opened was raided in Pattaya today, November 9th, 2022.

“Big Joke”, also known as the Assistant Commissioner of Police Surachet Hakpal has ordered officers in Pattaya and Chonburi to raid a suspected building which allegedly belonged to Chinese investors at the Pha Niead Chang Intersection on Pattaya Third Road. The raid came after officers were notified by anonymous concerned citizens that the place was being prepared to be opened as a luxury casino.

Officer arrived at the scene with a search warrant to find Mr. M, 17, from Sattahip, who presented himself as a caretaker. His full name was withheld due to his age. Pattaya law enforcement found that the building was being decorated as an extensive luxury casino with many gambling items.

  • I can understand opening an unlicensed girly bar or a restaurant or a naughty massage place, but a giant casino and to hope it will somehow fly under the radar? that's sheer lunacy...

  • It has been reported by other Thai media that the Chinese man who is operating this casino business is known only as Mr. Ming.   Is this him ?

  • Shows just how much respect the Chinese have for Thai's, or anyone else, for that matter!

The loud carpet was a giveaway for general joke ????

555 - every casino I've ever been in had a very similar carpet.

A lot of money has been sunk (without trace) into that place.

sounds like they got the nod to go ahead and then got unnodded by "big joke"................that man needs some serious protection

This is what the Chinese do but what they need to realise is that Thailand is not Cambodia............will money and bribes win ?   hmmmmmm

so message to "Big Joke" monitor the carpet sales

I would be willing to "bet" this is not the only carpet being laid in Pattaya, anyone think the local police have no idea this is going on ? - did the mayor or police chief just buy a carpet shop lol

Thailand needs to seriously consider of having this nation coming to Thailand is more trouble than they are worth.

Unless you have a senior cop-in-your-pocket.

And some believe "zero baht tourism" doesn't exist, it's a myth, it's fake news etc.  ????

Obviously many criminals here in Thailand are not scared when implementing such big projects. In this case the question is more what went wrong because it was noticed.

Not really. Happens all the time in Thailand. Money makes anything become invisible to the right people.

Yet another story about a Chinese guy planning to build and operate an  illegal business.

I see a pattern developing here?????

Well I'm going out on a limb here, but I would suggest it depends on how much money is involved, every man has his price?

Businesses were already there catering almost exclusively to Chinese coach loads of tourists pre covid. I live just around the corner. Used to be a problem getting out of the moo baan some evenings due to the numbers of coaches coming and going.

The pic of the outside in the linked article shows what was the moo kata bit now boarded up and presumably the outside of the casino. I had wondered why security had returned to the entrance to the complex in the last month or so.

They have a gambling obsession. Look what happened to Sihanoukville in Cambodia. Will Pattaya be next? I guess it is just a question of time.

Maybe they just jumped the gun without the correct brown envelopes
maybe an announcement is due to be made
i know of another place doing same, but it is in the middle of nowhere on top of a mountain.

Sort of..

Looks like the Chinese gangs have become well established over the last few years. Setting the new casino up in preparation for Chinese tourism resurgence after their lockdowns.

Is this how close casino's are to being opened? - lol.
