BANGKOK (NNT) - The 33rd APEC Ministerial Meeting (AMM) came to an end after a full day of deliberation and discussion between APEC Ministers on how to move forward with economic issues and draw on COVID-19 to set a course for the region’s economic recovery.

Prior to the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting on November 18–19, 2022, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Mr. Jurin Laksanawisit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, co-chaired the 33rd APEC Ministerial Meeting (AMM) on November 17, 2022. The meeting was attended by APEC Ministers, who discussed the main accomplishments of the host year and gave advice to Leaders on how to move forward.

The "Open. Connect. Balance" topic of APEC 2022 served as the focal point of the ministerial deliberations. On open to all opportunities, APEC Ministers discussed how to keep trade and investment in the region open and sustainable in the face of fresh economic challenges.

On connecting in all aspects, in order to ensure that cross-border travel is robust, APEC Ministers discussed how to improve health policy cooperation and considered longer-term lessons learned from COVID-19. The use of digital technology was emphasized as a powerful instrument for improving secure and seamless connectivity.

On balancing all aspects, the APEC Ministers talked about how economies might use the BCG Economy Model to hasten their transitions to inclusive, sustainable economic recovery and long-term growth. They emphasized the necessity of involving the entire society and of working in collaboration with the business and public sectors.

Through pre-recorded videos, the World Trade Organization (WTO), World Health Organization (WHO), and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Secretaries General provided their insightful perspectives on international trade, health, and sustainable development.

The Bangkok Goals on BCG Economy were submitted by APEC Ministers for Leaders’ approval, which was the AMM’s most significant accomplishment. The Bangkok Goals will act as a guide for advancing APEC’s sustainability agenda and as a legacy of Thailand’s APEC host year.

Thailand also announced the annual APEC BCG Award to honor individuals and organizations who incorporate the BCG strategy into their daily lives and professional practices.
