WASHINGTON — A federal jury in Washington on Tuesday found Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and Kelly Meggs, another member of the far-right organization, guilty of seditious conspiracy in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, a victory for the government in a case that involved a rarely-used Civil War era statute.

Three other members of the group who were on trial alongside Rhodes and Meggs — Jessica Watkins, Kenneth Harrelson and Thomas Caldwell — were found not guilty on the seditious conspiracy charge. All five defendants were found guilty of obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting for their actions on Jan. 6.

The seditious conspiracy charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Rhodes' lawyer said Tuesday that he plans to appeal that conviction.

Once again 2022 shows it’s face as a sterling year for Justice.

This one comes with the added bonus of the court find ‘Seditious conspiracy’

So there ends the ‘peaceful protest’ gaslighting we’ve had to put up with.

Now lock this piece of scum up for the full 30 years, snd let’s hope that that’s the rest of his life.

Can't wait to see what the sentences will be.  Next on the agenda:  what to do about the top guy responsible for it all.

This is good day for Justice against far-right groups charged for seditious conspiracy. Looking at history, seditious charges have been brought several times against far-right groups including white nationalists as far back as 1940 and have never been successful. All were dismissed with one citing the First Amendment grounds. We can expect more guilty verdicts now that precedent has been set leading all way to the top.

Roger Stone is probably in focus now due to his close association with both Trump and the Oath Keepers at the time. I'm not sure but I think those convicted still get a chance to cooperate further in exchange for a lighter sentence.

Excellent. Now gotta keep going ALL the way to the top...Slimy Teflon Donald ????-???? Trump. ????????

This convinction should give DOJ more mandate/spine to criminally charge Trump for seditious conspiracy. NOW.

I admit to fighting the huge jaded cynicism I carry around inside me about Justice ever truly and fairly being served and weasel-politicians letting each other and their corporate masters of the hook ... Having made said admission.

I'm not an American but have lived/worked in the US and have a few liberal friends (I have met lots of Republican and some extreme right Yanks in my time too what we are witnessing is the lamentable, OPEN devolution and sabotaging of the very democratic structure (as strangely as Americans make their version) that we have watched over the last 6 years.

Trumpism or if I am to use its true name; fascism, has always been a strong current in the body politic of America.

I, like many posters on AN want to see the instigator/s Trump and the second tier people like Stone, Bannon, Meadows, what is that idiots name who raved openly to the press about the 'Greenbay Sweep' after being arrested? ... him too. The members of the Secret Service who tried to remove Pence from the Capitol on J6, the sitting Senators e.g. Jordan, Lindsay Graham et al.

It's an atypical process of neurotic pathological projection from the seditionist and treasonous right in America today that they cry conspiracy about everything vaguely related to J6, and about the civil suits against Trump himself and his Companies. Its plain to 'Blind Freddy' who listens to the facts and some of the truly amazing investigative journalism (world wide press - some independent) just how rotten and truly dangerous Trump, The Republican Party and the MAGA movement (they are now indistinguishable) are to the entire world.

I hope that now with the Special Prosecutor being appointed Justice will be served and as swiftly, fairly, and rightly as can be.

In the meantime, the fascist, killer guy Kyle Rittenhouse is free and last I checked, was provoking people on social media.

Far right so often gets away with various crimes they commit. So I am surprised they have gone after this fascist group. I guess they had to. It was too out in the open.

Did some of our federal police conspire to overthrow the United States?

Why didn’t the “dogs” of our federal police, investigative, and military agencies “bark” when they knew full well in advance that an armed mob was coming to the Capitol to try to overthrow our government, and that many within the mob were armed and willing to kill (and did) to try to accomplish their goal?

Why, afterward, did the Secret Service and the Department of Defense wipe their phones so the data could never be retrieved?

It’s something to do with elections having consequences, and voting matters.

The extent of the conspiracy to overthrow the election is going to shock people.

The US was a hairs breadth from a fascist take over.

At this point it's about precedent: if they let these guys walk (I'm referring to all these guys, including the one with a perverse liking of orange spray-tan) they are going to try again.  What is going on in AZ right now is because the Feds didn't do what was necessary to bring the bozos who tried to finagle the 2020 election results.  Two years and counting, looks like it's not going to be settled in time for the 2024 presidential.  I don't think by 2028 either.

Keep an eye on little Kyle, we're going to be seeing more of him in the future.  I still can't believe he got away with the amateur crybaby performance: I have a nephew who does the same thing, and just as poorly (and his parents always give in).  He killed (crossing state lines with a weapon and killed and wounded several people) and he got away with it.  He'll do it again, he'll be able to cry his way out of that too, he'll think.  He was a guest at MAL and supposedly watched the deSouza movie with the proprietor.  I think he's going to go to college and have a hard time making friends, and one day it's going to come to a head he's going to load up on ammo and teach them all a lesson.

In regard to the second sentence of the quote there is a multi-part podcast called Ultra, by Rachel Maddow.  It involves pro-Nazi treachery in the US gov't prior to and during the US involvement in WWII, quite a good piece of work.
