Urologist prescribed it.

 

More negative patient reviews I've read than positive.

 

Trying Saw Palmetto and recently added Pygeum also, but having no effect.

Ordered Stinging Nettles.

 

If the herbs have no effect, considering trying the medication but very interested in what others have experienced.

Been taking Tamsulosin and Finasteride for about 4yrs as treatment for enlarged prostrate. 0.4mg and 5mg once per day.

 

Initially results were good but have reduced as time goes on.

 

Side effects: E.D, Retrograde Ejaculation.

Currently on Xatral 10mg  1 per day for  Prostate for the last 10 months, i was on 3 other brands before this,  none of them work  for very long, the  night time Urination  is bad, waking every 2 hours,   its now starting in the day time too, Plus  a few UTI;'s so this week i will book an appointment with the Urologist to have the Rezum (steam) operation a.s.a.p before it gets any worse because  it never gets better

Dealing with BPH?

I am taking Doxazosin 2 mg  only, also try to lose weight by watching my diet,walking at least 30 minutes everyday and cut down on alcohol. Still have to wake up at night to go to the bathroom but not as often as before.

 

I am taking Doxazosin with 5mg Bisoprolol which is a beta bloacker. I cleared with a doctor before that.  BP 122/74 this morning.

 

BTW Based on my limited experience, I would not recommend the two clowns at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, Banglamung Hospital has a young excellent Urologist if you can wait for an appointment.

Was on Tamsulosin for 4.5 months. The first month was good, had a much better urine flow. But was never warned of side effects. After the first month I had mucous flowing like a river. Went to the doctor and was diagnosed with acute sinusitis. 3 weeks on antibiotics with no change, then the back pain started. 3 more weeks on a stronger antibiotic with no change. Finally was asked if I was taking any meds. Yes Tamsulosin  I replied, it was then the side effect side of the drug came up. I stopped all medication save the Tamsulosin and the sinusitis remained. Then I had ED as well. The doctor wanted me to take another medication for it. I said no, stopped all treatment and began to take Saw Palmetto. The flow is still not up to par but only getting up once a night as it has been for 20 years now. Plan to go back to a different urologist after the new year and get checked. The specific medication was Harnal Ocas 0.4 milligram.

Saw palmetto in the morning, 5 mg of Finasteride and 1 mg of Cardura at lunchtime. The Cardura also acts as an anti-hypertensive.

I don't know if the Finasteride is working, flow is reasonable, I get up 2 or 3 times in the night.

Alcohol really increases frequency, so I only have one or two drinks a week. Probably should give it up completely.

There are a few reports on Rezum circulating, opinion seems to be divided on whether it resolves the BPH quickly, or it takes several months to heal.

Doctors tout it as relatively painless. They are not the ones who have the operation.

The last figure I saw was 300K baht at Bumrungrad.

Off topic to this thread - but a recent post described an experience with either Urolift or Rezum - he kept sarcastically referring to "this unobtrusive procedure" while describing his agony urinating for a long time after the procedure.

 

Spent time searching for it but can't find it.

It's effectiveeness is whats worrying me, spending that money,  and  as they tell me, it  may not solve  the problems, i note that  Bangkok Pattaya Hospital were advertising  this procedure at 200,000b  3 Months  ago compared with Bumrungrad  Hospital whos's fee  is/was 250,000b.., last week  Bangkok Pattaya  are the same as Bumrungrad..

I"m currently  seeing  a Urologist at  Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, this guy is the second one, as  i was'nt very impressed  by the first one.. i  would be very interested to know   what 2  doctors u are  referring to  by way of giving a clue if possible, rather  than  naming them, there are  approx 6 Urologists there

I too share your concern, i'm no doubt going to end up needing some op as the meds i'm taking don't appear to be doing the job entirely and i'm on my second try with  different meds.

I wonder if there is any concrete statistical info available on the success ratio of each type of op ?

I have read  all i can find  on google,  but many reports contradict each other which is very frustrating. I  will chose the Rezum  procedure simply because i read its the safest, as  opposed to TURP,      less blood loss  etc  which is a concern  for me being  on   blood thinning  medication,

I take 10 mg Alfuzosin (Xatral) and 5 mg of Tadalafil (Cialis) daily with good success. Either one alone is not effective. I’ve been taking this combination for 10 years.
 

I added Saw Palmetto for a year with no noticeable improvement. 
 

I tried Tamsulosin with Tadalafil for 3 months, but went back to Alfuzosin with Tadalafil because of the ED side effects.

Thanks for your informative post, that is my current medication, been taking for just over 1 month to date with reasonable success. Its the only med i am taking having stopped the Cardura XL and Finnastreride due to them not really doing anything positive and i was like you suffering extreme ED coupled with depressive side effects.

 

I think with the meds its a case of ''suck it and see'' what works for you if they work at all. Most of us will ultimately end up having an op imo and i just want to undergo the most successful op available here in Thailand.

In my experience these meds are just postponing the inevitable. I took the meds for 15 years as the condition worsened. Eventually I had the TURP procedure 15 years ago. At that time the Green Laser procedure was only available in Bangkok. I believe the longer you wait the more damage it does to your bladder. Hysteresis, the bladder is contracted for so long that it no longer can expand to its original size.

Been on Tamsulosin for 12 months and no discernible benefit.

Only have to get once during the night as prior to taking it.

 

But ED, which roughly corresponds to the same time period, I had just put down to age and I was never advised of this as a side effect.

Sorry I am not willing to name the doctors at BPH whom I did not find helpful.

After being disappointed by two of them I am not going to try my luck with a third at the clinic.
