Edward Snowden granted Russian citizenship

Featured Replies

Former US intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, who leaked extensive US intelligence surveillance operations, has been granted Russian citizenship.

The decree was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.

Mr Snowden, 39, has been living in exile in Russia since exposing the National Security Agency (NSA) programme affecting millions of Americans in 2013.

Edward Snowden receives Russian citizenship and lives peacefully in Russia while Julian Assange rots in a British or US prison. Irony of choosing the right country.

Nobody is drafting Snowden. Ukes are being annihilated en masse in vain attacks, not spared at all by the Kiev regime that has commands to fight to the last Ukrainian. Even Ursula von der Lying of Europe said about 100 000+ KIA in the Uke army in a rare glimpse of truth but quickly retracted her tweet thereafter. So yeah, Snowden’s help is not needed.

There are many in US gov't circles (particularly military, intelligence, and State Dept) , beyond partisanship, who would like to see Snowden dangling from a rope for what he did before he wound up in Putin-istan.  You have to wonder what use they have been making of him over there.

During the reign of POTUS 45 there were efforts to have Assange brought to the US.  The front man on that initiative was Roger Stone, veteran right-wing dirty trickster.  It was not reported this way in the media but I had the impression the idea was not to lock him up, but to use him as an asset -- after all, he did help those guys out in the 2016 campaign.

Be very careful what you wish for Edward. In your next picture please hold up your hands and show us you still have your nails.

I'm happy for him that he didn't end up back in the US. IMO he's a hero for what he did.

Given the general tenor of your comments, I think you'd be happy for anybody who opted for Russian citizenship.

Russian citizenship means the USA cannot extradite him. I understand he doesn't want to live in fear all his life. Assange is worse off and needs to be set free immediately. If anyone has seen the video of the helicopter shooting Reuters journalists and children it seems he did humanity a service.

if the usa haven't succeeded in 9 years to get him, they would never get him.

His american passport was cancelled when he was travelling from hong kong to south america, while he was transferring in Moscow airport. That's why is was stranded there.

Now he can travel internationally, if he wishes to.

He can't go to anywhere in europe. Even turkey is risky, as they are in nato.

Also thailand is barred.

Discussion with him some 11 months ago - starts at 1:40, after brief introduction. Second part at 19:30, 29:50, 35:00 (on Assange) and later.

That situation bods well for the future whistle blowers from the USA and elsewhere.

Well I hear that the vodka is still fairly cheap in Russia.

At his age Eddie will likely be able to learn to speak passable Russian as

well.
