A bill seeking to revise the charter in order to decentralize control of local government was voted down in its first reading yesterday. 


Parliament President Chuan Leekpai announced the vote received 254 to 245 in support of the bill, with 129 abstentions. 


To pass it would have needed more than half of the 722 members of the House of Representatives and Senate.

 

Several  members and the leader of a militant group in the south have been given lengthy prison sentences by a court in Yala.


In July  9 people were arrested and police also seized explosives, detonators and communications equipment. The court yesterday sentenced them to 35 years in jail reduced to 17 years and an 18 year term for the group leader.

 

150 ethnic Rohingya people were stranded in the Andaman sea after their boat broke down off the Thai coast having left Bangladesh. activists say several may have died and urged authorities to rescue survivors. 

 

48 Rohingya migrants and three Thais were arrested on board a bus traveling through Ratchaburi province.


The Thai bus driver told authorities the group were picked up in Suphan Buri and they were on route to Songkhla in the far south.

 

TESLA motors yesterday launched two electric vehicles in Thailand, customers can now order Tesla’s Model 3 and Y via an online platform, Tesla currently has a Pop Up show space at Siam Paragon in Bangkok.


Locally 3 people were killed early this morning when their car was hit by a train as it crossed the railway on Soi 94 in Hua Hin, the accident happened at about 3am and the car  appears to have rolled several times following the impact from the train.

Jakarta: One of the Bali bombmakers involved in the blast that killed more than 200 people 20 years ago was released on parole yesterday. 


Umar Patek was a member of an Al Qaeda-affiliated group that detonated devices at a nightclub in 2002, killing 202 people including 88 from Australia.


Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese earlier said his early release would only renew distress and trauma for the victims' grieving families.

Finally, if you have plans to visit the U.K during the Christmas holidays, expect delays entering many airports due to a series of strikes by border immigration officers between the 23rd until the 31st December. Strikes will also affect railways and road services.
