Klong Luang police investigating the abduction and beating up of a Rangsit university student over a 1 million baht debt have said it has nothing to do with World Cup betting, reported Thai Rath.

The student was involved in a long running fead over owing more than one million baht to friends.

Less than half of the money involved a business deal and while more than half concerned a gambling debt it was not World Cup related and happened 6 months ago.

Police are trying to recover a 3.4 million baht car amid concerns by family members that the case is stalling.

A warrant for the arrest of two people has been made, these being individuals known to the victim.
