Thailand’s tour operators are expecting outbound tourism from China will restart in late January 2023 during the Lunar New Year festival when China gradually lifts its COVID-19 restrictions.

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s tour operators are expecting outbound tourism from China will restart in late January 2023 during the Lunar New Year festival when China gradually lifts its COVID-19 restrictions. The move will support the recovery of tourism-relating stocks and Thailand’s tourism.

Speaking at a recent event held by the Federation of Thailand Capital Market Organisation (Fetco),

Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Yuthasak Supasorn said that the agency has a plan to boost outbound tourism from China to Thailand next month or within the first quarter of next year at the latest.

It is expected that China authorities will allow its citizens to travel overseas from the lunar new year holidays, he said, adding that Thailand hopes it is on the list of countries that China allows its citizens to travel to.

OMG now I have to endure the long haul tourists buses in narrow Pattaya sois again when I go for my 6-month stay in Thailand in March.

Chinese will not come for a while I think, as the crematoria in China hardly can cremate the bodies at the moment. Covid is still in China as many elederly are not vaccinated yet.

You may have to wait till 2024. Lunar New Year 2023 - unlikely...

TAT dreams big....but I guess they think they need to stay relevant instead of quiet.

Great they started Covid, let the world cope and nearly cure it and now they want to bring it to Thailand to spread again. God only knows how many variants have developed in China while it has been closed to the World. Still bad in China as they have a very bad vaccine program with inferior vaccines.

Quite so! Thailand and TAT only think about one thing, Money?

Everything else is secondary.

Don't come......it will be Hell (again).

Wishful thinking on my part perhaps, but I hope this does not happen.

Frankly, I would rather have Covid restrictions than the Chinese mass tourists back.

What a great idea, encourage mass tourism from China just as Cv19 outbreak is exploding there. No entry restrictions, just bring your money, what could possibly go wrong?

Rather die from covid than hunger.

Thailand expects Chinese visitors

and I expect to win the lottery  555

Yes it will be a VERY INTERESTING winter that's for sure.

There goes the neighbourhood .......... again.  More zero baht tours and as keithkarmann says maybe new variants of covid.

Well I have enjoyed my stay while the tourists were at a minimum.  Very enjoyable. Now, with the Chinese fixing to invade. I am off to the warm Caribbean and enjoy the crystal clear waters , food to die for, and no visa hassles... haha ????

They are back and planning ahead. A house near me, on the market for years, has recently been sold to a Chinese buyer... apparently he plans to level the place and rebuild.... so effectively paid near asking price for the land only. There was Chinese interest picking up pre-Covid and it went away during the pandemic. I suspect they will be buying a lot of property over the next few years.

Agree, I think it is ineveatable at this point. But hardly anything new. I think Thailand will be better off with Chinese people buying up the land here for sure.

We had Chinese buyers all through covid so they never really dried up but we'll definitely be seeing more of them.

They were not the Plebs, the unwashed masses - the zero-dollar tourists.

The hiso Chinese have always a nose for a deal.

Was speaking to Chinese this morning in Shenzen, Beijing and Shanghai, they are far from coming.

I would prefer 2030 or later, though

Good time to invest in pendants, shrimp and durian.

I was thinking 6' tall poles with flags on top for the tour guides to hold and then red arm bands for the tourists on the tour.  I will only charge them 34 baht, so mine will he the $1 tour. I will even give 1 room for 8 guests and 4 packages of mama noodles with a free coupon for the shrimp buffet all for the liw price of 25k THB per person.....of course they have to pay for their own flights and we will use the baht bus for transport....

I really hope not
