Thailand’s opposition parties are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha from his position as Defence Minister, to demonstrate responsibility over the sinking of HTMS Sukhothai in the Gulf of Thailand on Sunday night.

The opposition also plans to submit an interpellation to the House on Thursday, seeking a clarification from General Prayut over the tragic incident, in which six crew members of the sunken ship have been found dead and 23 are still missing.

The Royal Thai Navy dismissed a report today (Wednesday) that another crew member had been rescued, insisting that 23 are still missing.

and how reporting of this accident was handled by navy.

They had ample time to rescue all marines before she sunk.

From the video released from the ship, they lost power in the afternoon. She sunk after many hours, at 11pm.

In the evening weather was calm, and no clouds.

She was only 20 miles from shore

not only the minister but also the people in charge in the army involved in this tragedy... 30 too many on the ship than normal with no life jackets......

Just about everything else is

Unless it hit him like an iceberg, I think he's safe

So this particular demand can be filed together with all the other demands for the PM and his cronies to clear the stage and book an extended stay at the Hilton in Bangkok ????

Opposition?

What opposition?

Taking responsibility isn't a national strength. It's most likely that someone on the vessel sold the life vests to make a quick buck. As for the vessel sinking...who forgot to close the scuttle valves.

That's coming to an end next year...

The Navy in this country is only second to the Army when it comes to corruption in this country. The good thing for them is they fly under the radar a lot and get away with <deleted> like buying outrageously expensive submarines and siphoning off budgets left, right and centre and they can't even have enough lifejackets available for their men.

No No No @ozimoron assures us that condition were far to severe for any rescue- winds far to high for any rescue by sea or by air...

Also they dont have a 31 seater helicopter so even if it was calm there was no point trying to save them.

sure it is.

There is about as much chance of Him taking responsibility as I have of getting pregnant.

The Thai navy has 5 SaR helicopters. It's not likely any were in the vicinity when the ship went down. Your rant was based on unresearched and uninformed ignorance. And now you continue to troll me.

Presumably it would not of been more than a 1-2 hours trip from anywhere in the country.... Questioning you is not trolling... its a message forum which relies on people engaging backwards and forwards.  According to the reports the ship was listing for hours and hours before going down.
