Hi everyone

I have in the past been using the 65K monthly transfer to secure my yearly retirement extension and was told that I had to ensure that my monthly bank transfers were labeled "International transfer" and that they would not accept transfers from Western Union etc that did not contain that statement.

It now suits me to use the 800K in the bank method and just top up if required.

Are there any restrictions or rules on how my top up payments are deposited into my Thai Bank, ie do my top up's have to prove to have come from abroad or could I now use a company such as Western Union etc.

Thank you in advance

The 800K must remain in the account for 3 months after the extension is issued, at which time you may withdraw but must leave a minium balance of 400K.
Then 2 months prior to the next extension application, the funds must be topped up to 800K again.

You do not have to provide any evidence of where the funds came from when using the 800K funds method.

Try 'Wise' rather than Western Union.

I would strongly advise you to open a new dedicated account for the 800k, like I (and quite a few others on here) have done. There have been numerous instances reported on here of those using their day-to-day account for this purpose (which I assume is what you are planning to do) inadvertently finding the balance dipping below the required 400k/800k (depending on the time of year, as referred to by @Liquorice above) minimum, with obvious dire consequences at extension of stay time!

And definitely have no card nor internet access linked to this new account either IMHO.

First up, as stated earlier, to start using the 800k the funds have to have been in your Thai bank for 2 months on day of application.

Funds not required to be shown came from abroad.

I use a dedicated bank account for immigration purposes and is definitely a good idea.

Personally, I would continue with the 65k monthly deposits until the day of application.

Overlap covers both options.

Agree with earlier post that WISE is probably best option for international transfers.

Edit: @Liquorice quoted you by mistake but will leave this post.

Happy New Year folks,

maybe I shouldn't butt in here as there are some very good visa info specialists onboard.

Are you sure-sure the 800k funds is NOT required to be shown came from abroad?

I've always thought the K-bank letter I've presented to Chonburi Immigration for the past 15 years had to show -

(a) the amount on deposit

(b) for how long it's been there  and

(c) it's inward remittance?

For money in the bank method for both extensions based on marriage and retirement the funds do not need to be shown to have come from abroad.

For an application for a non O retirement inside Thailand the 800k would need to be shown to come from abroad.

If using the 400/800K method;
a) If you entered as a Tourist (VE/TV) and are applying to change your status to Non Immigrant (Non o) as a prelude to applying for a 1 year extension of stay, then proof of the funds coming from overseas is required.
b) If applying for the 1-year extension of stay, proof of where the funds came from is not requested.

The letter confirms only your name, account number and the balance.
The balance should match that of your passbook/statement.
