Hi all,

I am about to embark on a project to build a small loader/digger and will need a supplier of hydraulic components.

Can anyone tell me where a good supplier may be. I will be buying, pumps, motors and various valves etc.

I am near Khon Kaen so would be most interested in this area but of course anywhere in Thailand that someone can recommend would be good.

Maizefarmer, I was hoping you may be able to help here in consideration of the amount of tractor rebuiding you do.

Here is the beast

The plans are available from a company called Cadplans and apparently they are good working plans. I have been looking at a forum whose members have all built , or are in the process of building, this CadTrac loader and they seem to be happy with there decision.

With the price of used small mini loaders or mini excavators very cheap I don't see the purpose making your own. Frankly I can give you all the contacts you will need in Bangkok but the quaility is not going to be what you want or need.

Badbanker

Badbanker,

It is for the sense of achievment, I need an excuse to fit out my workshop and after being off the tools for 10 years I am looking forward to it.

Of course I can always find a different project if I could locate a reasonably priced mini loader. Any advice where???

Most of my searches are confined to the internet as I am away from LOS. As you know the Thai business sector just doesnt seem to realise the benefits of the internet yet but maybe they will catch on one day :o

stating the obvious but maybe the pumps, rams & motors on some of the kubota or yanmar equipment made for thailand, could be used if you found the correct flow rates, psi etc.

communicating this to a dealer though. :o

Exactly uptou,

I have been websurfing most of this afternoon trying to find a Thai manufacturer without luck, it must be all imported from China but you would still think that some dealers and distributors would want to get with the program.

It is a shame when you try to have a look on EBay for Thai products (in the hope of coming across what you are chasing) and all you get is pages and pages of Red Bull T-Shirts and other useless, cheap crap. :o

I have just about given up sourcing gear in Thailand, lots of leg work and false leads required every time. The Chinese will take over the commerce in this country in the not so distant future, they seem to be keener to make a buck.

Sorry, having a frustrating day :D

Hi khunandy,

I try to never give advice,

and it is seldom that I will give instruction...

but this has caught my eye and I will venture my 1 baht...

The advice of badbanker is very sound...

and I will take uptou's suggestion a little furthur...

I seriously considered building the cadtrack 5 years ago...

and within 6 months realized this was a hopless endevor here in LOS.

You can not find quality components here.

Importing them is a joke.

To get them...

this unit will cost you at least 300K+ and at leat a year to build.

It is a loosing proposition.

Furthur...

all machines break,

and this is a very specialized machine.

It is total hydraulic.

You can not get parts to keep it running.

Especially in 5+ years.

So, it will be an expensive yard orniment.

Beyound that...

why build this?

It offers nothing (except a tight turning radius).

The backhoe unit only digs 5 feet.

This is not a unit designed for commercial use...

err....

do you plan on using this for commercial use...

No, I did not think so.

So this means...

"a project to keep you occupied"

and perhaps

"you use it only around your property".

or even perhaps

"I want to drive myself insane by trying the impossible".

May god help you if a thai is operating it.

as it will be severly broken in 6 months or less.

May I humbly suggest the following...

which will do the same thing...

and can be reasonably maintained...

and offers a wealth of options for use...

A Kubota L2201DT farm tractor

(around 100k baht depending)

with...

A FEL and a Backhoe such as this

http://www.p.f.engineering.50megs.com/

http://www.loaderplans.com/

http://www.backhoeplans.com/

The FEL is removable...

The Backhoe is removable as it is 3-pt hitch mounted

(which is ok as you don't use it much and

it digs as deep as the cad-quadtrac)

This is a very good solution around the farm as

it is a small tractor, it can get into tight spaces.

The 4wd front axel gives you strength.

And you can drop these "attachments" and use

- slashers

- post hole diggers

- small plows

- small tillers

- boom poles

- grapples on the BH

- ect, ect, ect

This is a very versetile machine.

And not "locked-in" to specific use.

But don't consider this a commercial machine!

If you want a heaver "specific" FEL-Backhoe...

then go buy a used one.

They are cheap...

and there are (possible) those on the forum whom may assist you.

You will see "old" Jap FEL's...

they are 20k baht, but don't buy them, they are worn out.

The seals will forever leak.

And they are weak (they are 1.5").

These tractors hydraulics will

provide sufficent flow and pressure to accomidate

a 1.5" to 2" hydraulic piston.

I suggest using a 2" piston and then reducing the pressure.

Yeah, the reaction time is slower but

pistons and seal will last a long time and

you don't need to be stressing the tractor frame!!!

I tried locating a decent hydraulic tranny tractor.

There are none.

They are wonderful for FEL work....

but you can easily get by with a manual tranny...

but it is a lot of extra work on the legs.

If you can find a hydro tranny tractor, stay away from it.

You will never find parts for it.

Want a bigger tractor?

Choose a L-225dt, L-255dt, L-230dt

But their turning radius is much larger.

But you can drive chippers with 25~28+ hp...

ummm, decisions decisions.

Personally I prefer a small tractor for this work...

- it fits into almost all narrow spaces

- it digs trenches, cleans stalls, moves dirt-rock

- and can easily dig a hole for a septic tank.

Do NOT consider using it

for continous light-medium construction as

it is not built for it, especially with a thai operating it.

And always use a larger tractor for heavy field work.

Err... by the way,

- do weight the end so it does not tip.

- the "rice tires" will be havoc in a yard.

(there are ways around it)

Do research it, the truth is out there.

And I have well over 40 MB of data on this subject

covering well over 5+ years.

I have built these type of units as far back as the early 80's

I love them.

Wish we could get quality accessories here...

Again...

I try to never give advice,

and it is seldom that I will give instruction...

but this has caught my eye and I will venture my 1 baht...

Alright 'nuff... I've said my piece...

Best Luck to a DIY'er

Hi Andy

If its a hobby enjoy!!

I have been working with 5 lamborghini tractors here in Thailand over the last 7 yrs, so we have had to import lots of parts. But this is not hard, all you have to do is use an agent to do the customs clearance for you. We would pay 7% tax on these parts. And if you have a friend back home that buys it for you then get him to re-do the invoice to a really cheap price and you can get away with paying next to nothing (just have check up on the required documentation but its not really difficult.

In Udon they had a shop that could do hydraulic pipe press and fittings. Some fittings for US measurements were hard to find. I would imagine KK would have the same.

So you also have the likes of Caterpillar parts that you could use, if you could cross reference pumps etc. But what I found here, was that with a John Deere tractor we brought in Thailand, sold to us by Minseng, that they whack ridiculuos amounts onto their spare parts. We had a problem with the transmission, Minseng quoted 147,000 baht for parts we were able to acquire the parts form the US ourselves for a around 70,000 bt.

Any way I hope this helps.
