Foreign tourists returning to Hua Hin, many more expected this year

The tourism industry in Hua Hin is showing signs of recovery following a surge in foreign tourists arrivals in recent weeks.

 

According to Mr. Udom Srimahachota, vice president of the Thai Hotel Association (Western region), said foreign tourists currently account for approximately 60 percent of all tourists visiting the district.

 

Mr. Udom said that the tourism situation in Hua Hin has been improving since before the New Year’s Eve festival and had shown no signs of slowing.

 

According to information from members of the Thai Hotel Association based in Hua Hin, it was discovered that foreign tourists from European countries came in greater numbers than in previous years, Mr. Udom said.

A friend of mine manages quite a few condos in HH, and they are all fully booked through the end of April. Seems busy.

A 2 hour drive west for me, I like HH for couple of days break to get some fresh coastal air, however I drop south from the main city as that gets quite congested.

Better places are easily found just out from the town centre.

Agreed, it is not only condos by also villa estates, with Russians being the dominant group.  Mostly young families and groups of young single people, taking out 2-3 month renewable leases, according to a couple of real estate agents.

Wifes family gave us a beachfront property in Hua Hin since 1999 near the palace and we thoroughly enjoyed living there. 
HH was a bit of a Wild West town back then, no supermarkets or farang restaurants etc, but like most of Thailands beach cities, it’s grown beyond recognition since then with thousands of new houses and condos.

Overdeveloppment can also have the opposite effect and chase away visitors if the whole area gets congested.

 

The typical tourist visitor to Thailand does not have and does not want the NYC resilience such as having to queue up for anything from going to a restaurant or to a "health therapy hottie happy-end massage" parlour.

 

Another element that can backfire on economy is greed. If operators get greedy and hike the rates, prices etc...tourists are not stupid anymore...Vietnam is the new eldorado just around the corner.
