Siam Rath were contacted yesterday by a resident of the Rungruang housing estate in Nern Phlap Wan, Pattaya, after a horrific abandonment of cats was discovered.

The person who lived at at a bungalow in Soi 6/2 of the estate had left their 12 cats to fend for themselves in the locked up property and in cages.

The cats had no food for two months.

In a desperate attempt to survive they had turned on each other for food.

Three had survived but were injured.

Samran Wuthano, 54, showed reporters the house that has two bedrooms.

There was the smell of rotting flesh, cages and many bones of cats stripped of their flesh in the dilapidated house.

Some intact dead bodies were still there.

She said that the neighbor next to the property had noticed a terrible smell so they all eventually decided to break down the door.

The surviving felines were being looked after by people in the estate.

She said that the 12 animals had been cared for properly by the owner but 2 months ago they locked up and moved away.

She said she was completely dumbfounded by the Nong Prue police.

She said she called them and they allegedly said:

"We thought you meant there was a dead body. What are we supposed to do about dead cats".

They left without going in and did nothing at all.

She turned to the press for help especially as the surviving animals need care to recover from their injuries.

I had neighbours who moved because they lost face over various disputes which they involved the authorities in and were put back in their place. However they left cats and a dog behind, the dog was outside. I went and found the daughter and asked her why she left the dog behind, she said it wouldn't jump into the back of the pickup. I convinced her to come round and loaded the dog. Didn't know about the cats at this stage. Later I realised the father was coming round and feeding them, but that didn't last. The animals are all dead now. I think the larger ones which could get out through the eaves got torn to shreds by various dogs, and the smaller ones perished inside.
