Thai government has approved a budget of 182 million dollars to hold the next general election.


Thai Prime Minister Prayut has yet to dissolve Parliament and could do so at any time before an election is called by May this year.

 

The Move Forward said yesterday it would unfalteringly put forward legislation to amend the draconian lese majeste law which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.


Party leader Khun Pita suggested bail be granted to all political detainees on the grounds of human rights.

19 million households across the country will benefit from reduced electricity prices for the next 4 months, after the government approved a 7.5 Billion baht subsidy yesterday.


The amount of discount will vary on the amount of electricity used. 

 

Charges will be filed against three former Immigration officials alleged to have taken bribes in exchange for approving non-immigrant visas to more than 3,000 Chinese nationals during the last 2 years.


It’s alleged the three based in Khon Kaen and Chaing Mai took between 100 k and 300,000 baht per non-immigrant visa approval. 

 

More than 800 residents and businesses have taken legal action against star petroleum, the PTT and others involved with last years oil spill off the coast of Rayong,


More than 47 thousand liters of oil leaked into the sea, some reaching the mainland and Kho Samet island.


The lawsuits addressed delays in dealing with the leak and cleaning up the spill, while local authorities have yet to restore the ecosystem. Residents are demanding 5 billion baht to support affected communities.


Thailand will boycott a kickboxing event at the upcoming Southeast Asian Games this May in Cambodia,
Thai officials are angry at plans by Cambodia who call the event ‘Kun Khmer’ instead of Muay Thai.


While the name Muay Thai may be better known around the world, Cambodian officials insist the sport originated from their Khmer culture.

Nepal, A 5.6 earthquake killed at least one person and damaged more than two dozen houses in a remote western part of the country. 


Witnesses said people were terrified as they ran out into the streets. Tremors were felt as far away as New Delhi.
