spambot
I came across this old post (October 8, 2019) by UbonJoe - If stay in Thailand 90 days in the past 6 months application at Vientiane and Savannakhet possibly KL or Penang or Ho Chi Minh City then will not accept a application for a tourist visa. Is this still a thing? Has this been adopted by any other Consulates / Embassies?

Popular Post BritTim
In late 2019, just prior to Covid, it was becoming more and more difficult to acquire Thai tourist visas at embassies/consulates in countries neighbouring Thailand. The limitations imposed varied from location to location. Vientiane and (especially) Savannakhet had historically been easy places to get serial tourist visas, but had been steadily tightening their requirements. I am not sure of the limits they are now applying. I have seen one report (not confirmed) that they will allow you two tourist visas, but block any attempt to apply for a third. In 2019, the best places to apply were Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Yangon. Even there, you would risk a denied application if your passport was full of Thai tourist visas. 2

Good info BritTim - Its just a pity that Immigration can not just make a single set of rules that could be possibly even harder to qualify for - But a least everyone knows what the rules are. I suspect that that even outside of the amount of tourist visa's each immigration algorithm has also been adapted to include some kind of calculation for the amount of Visa exempts especially now this has increased to 45 days. The reason that McDonald's gets repeat customers is they provide predictability, the one thing you never get from Thailand immigration is predictability. Nothing to do with immigration who are under the remit of the Thai immigration police. The consulates and embassys are under the remit of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Call me cynical Some in Thai immigration don't want repeat customers (or long-stay tourists), others want to charge them extra for the privilege, and yet again others couldn't care less. It's a mixed bag, which explains that reports are all over the place as there's no consistency whatsoever.
