A sociology lecturer presented a petition endorsed by 91 university lecturers, to former prime minister Sura-yud Chula-nond,  the petition seeks a resolution to the hunger strike of two protesters currently in prison on charges of Les Majeste.


The two have not accepted food or water from the prison since the 18th of January, in protest at the prolonged imprisonment of 21 political activists.

 

The new driving license points system has seen 11,548 drivers lose their licence during the first 3 weeks of enforcement, Chai Nat province saw the most offenders. Failing to show the vehicle tax disc was the most common offense followed by driving without license plates and speeding.

 

The government has approved an increase in the minimum wage for workers, salaries will increase to between 465 to 700 baht a day,


The increase will mostly affect semi skilled workers in a range of occupations where there are shortages of skilled workers,

 

The CEO of an online lottery platform, has turned himself in to special forces police after being accused of money laundering. Charges were brought against the CEO after he accepted a cheque for 53 million baht.


He says the government wanted his lottery business closed and has denied all charges.

Thailand plans to distribute 95 million free condoms to curb STDs and promote safe sex ahead of Valentine’s Day.  
From today, universal healthcare card holders are eligible to receive 10 condoms a week for one year.

 

The central bank says thailand's economy is recovering as tourism returns to the country.

 

In Tennis At the WTA Thailand open  Britain’s Heather Watson beat the No.2 seed Yulia Putint-seva, from Kazakhstan in a match that lasted more than 3 hours.

Malaysia’s former prime ministers Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin have been sued over the termination of the High Speed Rail project between Malaysia and Singapore.


The plaintiff is seeking to compel the defendants to pay some 300 million dollars in damages and compensation to every Malaysian citizen.

 

A green comet  is due to pass earth for the first time in 50 thousand years,….the Green coloured comet should just be visible to the naked eye this evening and tomorrow as it passes about 42 million kilometers from earth. Look to the north west away from any light pollution.
