Cape gooseberry. They sell them in Lotus's.

AKA Peruvian Ground cherry I think.

In Mongolia, we call it "The eye of the dragon."  Eat it, spread some on your body, and the ladyboys will love you.

Thanks Everybody - Although someone gave me some here in Thailand  I had encountered these in the UK many years ago  and I had forgotten the name - your posts helped me find out what they were called then - cape gooseberries.

Physalis. Scientific name.

Grow easy from seed. Save a few berries from the markets. Have a batch just about 20mm high at the moment should be able to plant out soon.
