The Wyoming Republican Party criticized a bill on Thursday that seeks to implement a minimum age requirement for marriage as the new law makes its way through the state legislature.

 

The bill is sponsored by Rep. Dan Zwonitzer, a Republican, and would raise the state's legal marriage age to 18 years old. There is an exception carved for 16 and 17-year-olds provided they receive consent from a parent or guardian.

I thought age of consent in all the US is 18. Is that wrong?

I note that parents can give permission, but can that over rule federal law?

However, there is a move in my country to allow 16 year olds to vote, so if they are mature enough to vote, surely mature enough to marry without parental approval?

How about DNA tests where it must be proven the two people are not closely related?  That would truly shake up the MAGA world.
