Around 1 in 3 high school girls in the U.S. have seriously considered attempting suicide, according to new results from a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey from 2021, up from less than a fifth of teen girls in 2011. And more than half of teen girls, 57%, reported feeling "persistently sad or hopeless" — a record high number.

By contrast, 14% of high school boys told the 2021 survey that they had seriously considered attempting suicide, up from 13% in 2011.

It's all frayed edges, destabilizing the masses, reported over analytics, social media - that isn't, failed parenting that doesn't know any better, doctors over prescribing for anti anxiety & anything else, schools that don't teach, the lost art of in person social skills & a general helpless feeling, fueling a callous disregard for the fellow man & a government that has shunned any facade of serving anything or anyone but itself.....

True that. I think especially the malevolent presence of social media, especially Tik Tok, which reinforce the worst of stereotypes and poke vulnerable youth in their most vulnerable areas.

Had they done such polls at any time in human history, IMO they would have found similar results.

Young lives are full of imagined trauma, speaking as a former child.

The only significant thing IMO is how many actually try.

Trying to get some positives from this report is not easy, however:

"Overall, 22% of high schoolers said they have considered suicide. That is somewhat better than the 29% when the CDC first began its biennial survey in the 1990s, but is an increase from the record low 13.8% tallied in 2009."

"While many of the trends have substantially worsened over the past decade, the report's authors do point out that a handful of indicators are now moving "in the right direction."

Social media obviously plays some part in this however its complex and there are a multiple reasons mentioned in the article. Schools play a huge part in combating this and need the resources to do so.

Social media is not going away however it needs to be censored where appropriate and quite rightly is. Twitter is the only platform that allows porn and no verification needed for signing up. There's an easy fix for this do as all the other main social platforms. Ban it.
