Four junior police officers, who are accused of providing vehicular escort services for a fee to Chinese tourists travelling from Suvarnabhumi international airport to their hotels in Bangkok, have been summoned to the Office of the Inspector-General to acknowledge charges of gross disciplinary violation.

The two traffic police officers and two tourist police officers admitted that they were the four men seen in a video providing escorts to Chinese tourists, which was posted on social media, but they deny that they had done anything which has tarnished the reputation of the Thai police or that they had demanded a fee from the tourists, according to Pol Maj-Gen Jenkamon Khamnuan, an inspecting commander attached to the Office of the Inspector-General.

The four officers also say that they used their own vehicles, two motorcycles and a car, which were modified to look like police escort vehicles.

So off duty police officers using modified vehicle's to fool the public into thinking that they are on duty and in 'real' police cars.

And that is legal? ????

If there was no money exchanged, they did this out of the goodness of their hearts, while off duty?

Who paid for the modification of their 'civilian' vehicles?

Yes, of course they did it for free... Guess, no receipt was given.

So pretend their private cars are Police cars is ok in Thailand? it's an offence anywhere else - wearing Police uniforms?   they were off-duty???

you're asking some very difficult and sensitive questions  ????

What is the law pertaining to driving on the toll-way with police lights flashing?  Isn't that against the law for off-duty police?

I see police trucks (presumably on-duty) driving around town with lights flashing (and in no apparent hurry) all the time.   Why isn't this stopped?

...this type of justification  is worthy of a Nobel Prize

So they provided the service free of charge out of the goodness of their hearts to give the Chinese tourists a good impression of Thailand.

And they only modified their private vehicles to look like police transport to make the tourists feel safer?

Nice try.

The reputation is rusted to disintegration and can't possibly be tarnished any further they mean ????

If you look at the big, overall picture of the Thai police, then I have to say their statement is correct.

If they have done it once they have done it more- check the bank accounts and sack the lot of them

The four officers also say that they used their own vehicles, two motorcycles and a car, which were modified to look like police escort vehicles.

If this is true then they should be able to produce these modified vehicles to have their VIN numbers checked.

The use of flashing lights atop speeding patrol vehicles means that officers are heading to lunch.

They are in a hurry.  They are in a hurry to get somtam at their favorite shop.

Everybody knows the Thai generosity, volunteerism and a good philanthropic predisposition to help others selflessly.

They have been given a script to memorise and have been told to stick to it.
