Relatives searching for a man missing since Tuesday after leaving his home in Ban Dokbua in Muang district of Phayao, northern Thailand, made a grisly discovery in a Longan (lamyai) orchard yesterday.

Chaiwut or "Lan", 51, was chained to a tree and had burned to death. A phone was found near the body.

His wife Jurairat said that Lan was a former municipal council worker who had lost his job. He had turned to looking after cows and buffalos on land adjacent to the orchard.

She said he was a nice and kind man. But since he had lost his job with the council he had often said that he wanted to die.

She was not sure whether he had been murdered or committed suicide.

A man called Sayan, 55, who has land nearby said that at 10pm on Tuesday as he was nodding off he thought he heard the sound of a single gunshot.

Siam Rath said that the Muang Phayao police were keeping both murder and suicide options open as their investigation into Lan's death began.

I will let the online CSI masters take over this one, with 99% likely saying murder.    Maybe the ones who said he wanted to die were the ones responsible............I'm sure there's a book with that plot.

All I know is it shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out.   Based on just this article, impossible.
