More than 7,000 military personnel from 30 countries are participating in the annual Cobra Gold 2023 military exercises which kicked off yesterday, Cobra Gold is the biggest joint military exercise in Southeast Asia, hosted in Thailand with Thai Armed Forces and US Indo-Pacific Command.

 

A government debate that would postpone enforcement of key provisions of the law against torture and enforced disappearance was adjourned yesterday, after a group of 100 MPs petitioned the Constitutional court to rule on it’s legality. 

Yesterday was the last day of sitting for the current parliament before the election in May. 

The Cambodia SEA Games Organising Committee yesterday denied demanding a fee of 800, thousand Dollars from Thailand for broadcasting rights of the upcoming SEA Games due to be held between 5th to 17th of May.

Saying: the broadcast fee is dependent on the size of audience, which varies by nation.

So far, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia have aquired rights to broadcast the games.

The body of "Dom" the 17 year old , leader of the 13 young footballers who were rescued from a Cave in Chiang Rai in 2018, was cremated in England yesterday, The cremation overseen by a former coach of Thailand's national football team who's Foundation funded Dom’s education in the U.K

The Region:

Vietnam will name a new president this week, according to officials,  after the dramatic resignation of the previous president as part of a drive against corruption in the communist state. The new 52 year old president is due to be sworn in tomorrow.

Hong Kong dropped its Covid-19 mask mandate starting today, in a move to lure back visitors and restore normal life, more than three years after stringent rules were first imposed.
