Popular Post TheAppletons Posted March 9, 2023 Popular Post Share Posted March 9, 2023 Flew out of CNX today and obtained a multiple re-entry permit at the airport prior to the flight. - The last time I did this, the re-entry permit booth was past security (on the left) but prior to the immigration officer departure line booths. Now, it is prior to the security line facing away from your sightline if you are looking at the security line (i.e., if you are facing security, it's behind you.) Easy to miss if you aren't looking for it as you start moving into the security queue. - What started as one form that I filled out in pen (and provided passport photo) to one immigration officer, turned into three immigration officers and another duplicate form printed out that I also signed. The duplicate form had the image of my passport information page in a thumbnail photo at the bottom. - My non-O from Chonburi province was the subject of great interest. I was asked if I used to live in Chonburi (yes), when I moved to Chiang Mai, why was I going to today's destination, how long would I be gone, when would I be returning.....quite the lengthy but not aggressive questioning. I correctly replied (I guess) that I filed a TM-30 when I moved to Chiang Mai, I produced my last 90 day report from Chiang Mai, and was asked to write my address on a separate sheet of paper, even though it was on the form I completed to start the process. Every page of my passport was scrutinized....twice. Also, the senior officer present showed particular interest in my previous, expired non-OA visa stickers. - At about the 25 minute mark, I casually remarked "you guys know I'm here to catch a flight, right?" and that seemed to provide the impetus to wrap things up. I did receive the re-entry permit, with a receipt and the correct change. - By contrast, every other time I've done this drill at CNX, it was a 5-10 minute paperwork exercise that was quite perfunctory. Not this time. (Side note: security line at CNX was quite inefficient. They appear to have a quota for the queue & people were turned away after the lunch break, with advice to try again tomorrow. Amazing Thailand! Should be a 5 minute job for each applicant. Easy to do at immigration and even easier if you get an agent to do it for an extra 200 baht at the same time as you get your extension of stay. travelerjim Posted March 10, 2023 Share Posted March 10, 2023 (edited) Curious as to why Thai Immigration Officers questioned you at the Chiang Mai airport when all you wanted was to buy a re-entry permit. Did you obtain your extension of stay as retired STAMP from an AGENT... Who OBTAINED the STAMP from the JOMTIEN Immigration office. Though you reside in Chiang Mai. If so, that may have caught the eyes of the Thai Immigration Officers as you were flying from Chiang Mai airport. It's strange to have them question you. Ever heard of anyone missing a flight or failing to get the reentry? Other than someone forgetting to do it? Yes, there is a sign posted at the Festival immigration office stating that they are no longer doing re-entry permits since March 8, and that you need to go to the immigration office near the airport.
