BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha recently provided an update on Thailand’s bid to host Expo 2028 Phuket, stating that the final decision is expected in June. He added that Thailand would benefit directly and indirectly from hosting the expo.

The prime minister recently attended a meeting at the Government House to follow up on Thailand’s bid for Expo 2028 Phuket. He noted that discussions had taken place with all involved working committees, emphasizing the importance of the bid to Thailand’s future. Thailand has a chance of being granted hosting rights to the Specialized Expo 2028, and the final decision will be made in June.

The premier noted that Thailand already has the support of many countries but stressed the need to continue campaigning in order to be selected as the finalist. He encouraged everyone in Thailand to serve as good hosts leading up to the announcement of the host nation, and to maintain peace and order in the period leading up to the general election.

The vision for the expo is focused on Thailand’s progression toward prosperity, security and sustainability, aligning with the Bio-Circular-Green concept for sustainable development. It also aims to link economies along Thailand’s eastern and western coasts, known as the "Thailand Riviera," to help boost income for residents in the two areas.

Gen Prayut also acknowledged that the government needs to work on the traffic congestion problem in the Southern region. The Ministry of Transport is continuously addressing this issue, with more routes to be added in the region in the future.

However, some of the transportation initiatives face obstacles concerning the environment and locals approval.

The prime minister urged everyone to look to future progress, stating that Thailand needs to adjust in line with global changes.
